A plaque bearing Chinese characters commemorates the first Chinese community established in Paris around 1919, in the Arts-et-Métiers quarter. Chinese workers and work-study students who had come to France during and after the First World War settled here, opening shops and associations that formed the city's earliest Chinatown, long before the 13th arrondissement.
