On July 13, 1793, Charlotte Corday stabbed revolutionary journalist Jean-Paul Marat in his bathtub at his apartment (formerly 30 rue des Cordeliers, now integrated into rue de l'École-de-Médecine). The building with turret was demolished in the 19th century, but the site was approximately here. David immortalized the scene in his iconic painting.
